About the position

Duties and responsibilities:
• Assisting in the preparation of financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, and other financial reports.
• Supporting the senior accountants in performing audits, including conducting audit tests and verifying financial records.
• Assisting in the preparation and filing of tax returns and ensuring compliance with relevant tax regulations.
• Assisting in the analysis and interpretation of financial data to provide insights and recommendations to clients.
• Assisting in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts to help clients make informed business decisions.
• Assisting in the maintenance and organisation of client records and financial documents.
• Collaborating with colleagues to ensure timely completion of assigned tasks and projects.
• Staying up-to-date with accounting principles, regulations, and industry best practices.
• Assisting in the development and implementation of accounting systems and procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy.
• Participating in training sessions and professional development activities to enhance accounting knowledge and skills.

Requirements:
• Completed Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• SAIPA registration.
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
• Proficiency in accounting software (preferably Xero) and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong organisational and time management skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team as well as independently.
• Problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
• Knowledge of accounting principles and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
  • Maintaining an agreed book value under the supervision of an Account Manager
  • Recording and reconciling financial transactions on a regular basis
  • Assisting in the preparation and filing of tax returns, ensuring compliance with relevant tax regulations
  • Supporting senior accountants in conducting financial audits, including collecting and analyzing financial data and verifying financial records
  • Assisting in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts
  • Assisting in the analysis and interpretation of financial data to provide insights and recommendations to clients
  • Assisting in the maintenance and organization of client records and financial documents
  • Assisting in the review and analysis of clients' financial processes to identify areas for improvement
  • Collaborating with colleagues to ensure timely completion of assigned tasks and projects
  • Staying up to date with accounting principles, regulations, and industry best practices
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of accounting systems and procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy
  • Participating in training sessions and professional development activities to enhance accounting knowledge and skills

What you need to qualify

  • A degree in accounting, finance, or a related field OR an advanced diploma in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Understanding of tax regulations and relevant laws
  • Minimum of 2 years proven experience in a bookkeeper role
  • Detail-oriented and meticulous
  • Self-motivated and proactive
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Xero) and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • SARS e-filing experience
