Bookkeeper

About the position

This Bookkeeper position involves assisting in the preparation of financial statements, maintaining books under supervision, recording transactions, and supporting tax filing. You will also help with financial audits, budgeting, and data analysis to provide insights for clients. The role includes maintaining client records, reviewing financial processes, and collaborating on tasks while staying updated on accounting principles and best practices. Additionally, you’ll contribute to developing accounting systems and participate in professional development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
  • Maintaining an agreed book value under the supervision of an Account Manager
  • Recording and reconciling financial transactions on a regular basis
  • Assisting in the preparation and filing of tax returns, ensuring compliance with relevant tax regulations
  • Supporting senior accountants in conducting financial audits, including collecting and analyzing financial data and verifying financial records
  • Assisting in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts
  • Assisting in the analysis and interpretation of financial data to provide insights and recommendations to clients
  • Assisting in the maintenance and organization of client records and financial documents
  • Assisting in the review and analysis of clients' financial processes to identify areas for improvement
  • Collaborating with colleagues to ensure timely completion of assigned tasks and projects
  • Staying up to date with accounting principles, regulations, and industry best practices
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of accounting systems and procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy
  • Participating in training sessions and professional development activities to enhance accounting knowledge and skills

What you need to qualify

  • A degree in accounting, finance, or a related field OR an advanced diploma in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Understanding of tax regulations and relevant laws
  • Minimum of 2 years proven experience in a bookkeeper role
  • Detail-oriented and meticulous
  • Self-motivated and proactive
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Xero) and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • SARS e-filing experience
